Status of AP World History AP World History has been revised by College Board for the 2011-12 year and therefore all schools and NCVPS currently offering AP World History have to submit a new syllabus for the course. Schools and NCVPS have until January 31, 2012 to submit the syllabus. We have our teachers finishing up the new syllabus this month and will submit it once it is complete. We are fairly certain that the syllabus will be approved and have talked directly with a representative at College Board to make sure that we are in good standing as long as NCVPS submits the syllabus by January 31, 2012. This is the same process that teachers at individual schools have to follow as well. Once we know the result on our new syllabus, we will post an announcement in the E-lert. If you still have any questions, please contact Marcia Simmons at marcia.simmons@ncpublicschools.gov. Thanks!

Blackboard 9.1 Browser Incompatibility Update
After our Blackboard upgrade, NCVPS has been getting used to the new 9.1 system and have learned of a few incompatibility issues that could and will likely affect student use of our system. These issues are mainly centered around Internet Explorer versions 8 and 9. When using these versions of IE in Blackboard, students will experience issues with content being viewable, participating in assessments, and uploading assignment files into the system. IE 8 can be manipulated to be usable to a degree by using IE 8 in compatibility mode.
As of right now, the best suited browser for Blackboard 9.1 has been found to be Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and higher. As always, students and districts need to make sure that their versions of Flash and Java are up to date for these browsers for continued participation in the NCVPS program.
In addition to using IE 8 or 9 in the course environment some of the issues stated above can be overcome by making sure browser history and internet cache is cleared prior to the login to the Blackboard environment. We thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter and NCVPS will keep you updated with any new developments.

Calendar Adjustments Due to the inclement weather and damage from Hurricane Irene in the eastern portion of the state, NCVPS has had to introduce some modifications to the Fall 2011 calendar. These changes will directly impact you and your students. Please read the outline of changes below, and adjust accordingly.- Fall 2011 and Yearlong 2011 Admin Drops have been canceled.
- The Sept 2nd report will now be a No-Show report indicating the participation of your students
- EOC courses will have an extended add period through Sept 8th. The last day of EOC drops will continue to be Sept 8th.
- Non-EOC courses will have extended dates for adds and drops. You will now be able to add and drop students through Sept 14th.
- We will accommodate OCS registration depending on capacity, by request through Sept 8th.
Thank you for your patience in the last minute change in schedule due to the impact of Hurricane Irene.
NOTE TO ALL ELA and ELCs E-learning Advisors and E-learning Coordinators, please take this time to carefully review your "no-show" report as well as update contact information and student information in the registration system. This is VERY IMPORTANT as students who are not dropped by the Sept. 14th deadline will be charged to your school district's NCVPS allotment.
_________________________________________________________________________
Waitlist Update NCVPS has experienced a steep increase of students in the last five days. Be assured, the NCVPS Curriculum & Instruction staff are monitoring the waitlists closely, additional teachers have recently been hired, enrollment and drop deadlines have been extended, and other measures are being taken to accommodate as many waitlisted students as possible. Please see the new add/drop extended dates that have been updated on the calendar.
_________________________________________________________________________
"No Show" Report On Sept 6 - a "No-Show" report will be available in your Registration System account, Reports tab. If the “No Show” column on the report has notation of “no show”, ELAs need to assess whether the student should be dropped or remain enrolled. This is VERY IMPORTANT as students who are not dropped by the Sept. 14th deadline will be charged to your school district's NCVPS allotment.
_________________________________________________________________________
Emergency Adds Seniors who need a class for graduation purposes and are still on a waiting list should be identified and their names submitted to your regional VLC. Seniors will be given priority status for adds AFTER the add date. Please NOTE: All enrollment types will be accommodated based on section availability. Thank you"

LOCK Session - NCVPS Grading Policy Dr. Tracy Weeks discusses the NCVPS grading policy. Follow this link to the archived presentation.
_________________________________________________________________________ Previous Items Hurricane Irene & Inclement Weather With the impending Hurricane potentially making landfall somewhere along the NC coast, we here at NCVPS are very aware of the impact that it may have on the both NC teachers and students. We are first and foremost concerned with the safety of everyone in the NCVPS family.
Many students and teachers in North Carolina’s coastal regions and beyond will likely be impacted by the approaching hurricane. This may also impact the connectivity for not only NCVPS students, but also for NCVPS teachers, and that will have an impact on students across the state.
The NCVPS virtual learning consultants will notify districts about teachers who have lost connectivity. and we will have a plan for that, as well.
Districts should report to their VLCs any closures due to inclement weather, and notify students immediately of any services that may be interrupted due to inclement weather that may affect NCVPS operations.
NCVPS teachers will work with individual students who are impacted by the storm. A plan will be created to get those students back on track.
Please look for further inclement weather messages from NCVPS and review our inclement weather policy here.

Peer Tutoring Message Welcome to Fall 2011!! As much as I hate to see the summer go, I am excited about beginning the new school year with NCVPS!
I write to you today with great news. The NCVPS Peer Tutoring Center will begin staffing the "school" tab in Pronto beginning Thursday, August 25. The tutors will be available to answer "Quick Questions" for all students. YES! You read that correctly! Tutors will be providing Quick Questions services via the "school" tab in Pronto for all students!! This service will be available for the first three weeks of the fall semester.
During the first few weeks of school, students typically encounter the same issues and have similar questions. For example, "Why isn't my blog showing up in the grade center?" "How do I reply to a discussion board?" "How do I know when my assignments are due?" "What is the last day of the semester?" The tutors are able to answer these questions and more for our students.
Here are a couple tips to help make your students aware of this service:
1) Share information about this service in your orientation sessions. 2) Print and post this Quick Questions Image: http://152.46.13.240/CTE% 20Content/PeerTutor/ prontohelp.png 3) Direct students to the "school" tab in Pronto if their instructor is not available to answer their questions 4) Share this Quick Question How To video: http://www.screencast.com/t/ hEiKV9b9kk
Again, thank you for supporting our students and the Peer Tutoring Center. Crystal Pullen & Gary Langnor

Change in AP Statistics Required Materials Great News! The ActivStats software required in the past for AP Statistics course is no longer required. We have listened to feedback received from schools over the past few years concerning the ActivStats software. As it was difficult and/or costly for schools to purchase this software for the AP Statistics course, a team worked diligently over the summer to remove the lessons and activities that required the use of this software. To view the current requirements for AP Statistics, please view the Textbook and Tech Requirements linked here.

OCS Blended Learning courses have additional space for more schools! Schools can still request sections for the OCS Blended Learning courses! NCVPS is happy to announce that we are able to pair additional schools' OCS classroom teachers with NCVPS content teachers!
All schools who enrolled students since April 5 into the OCS NCVPS Blended Learning courses can now see their individual schools with sections and students in the NCVPS Registration System. Please look for your school's information this way: OCSBlendedDistrictSchoolOCSCou rseName . Make sure that your length of time for the course is correct -- Block (Fall 2011) or Yearlong (Academic Year 2011-2012). DLAs can now drop students if needed and enroll additional students as needed. Students may go to your waitlists but they WILL be enrolled within a few days.
For any schools who need to open additional sections that are not located here in the registration system, please email Michelle Lourcey at michelle.lourcey@ ncpublicschools.gov. Please include the course(s) needed, such as OCS Blended English I and whether the course is for Fall 2011 or Yearlong 2011- 2012. Michelle will then follow up with additional directions.
All details regarding the NCVPS OCS Blended Learning course registration are located on our website: http://www.ncvps.org/index. php/courses/ocs-blended/
Spring 2012 enrollment will happen when NCVPS opens for Spring enrollment later in the year.

Fall 2011 Enrollment - Health Education Course The Health Education course is 1/2 credit course, and classes begin at the beginning of the semester and at mid-semester. Typically registration is heavy for the classes that begins at the start of the semester. NCVPS will balance that enrollment starting in Early Calendar 2011. Please click this link for details.
