Peer Tutoring Center
The NCVPS Peer Tutoring Center is in full swing with our 36 tutors servicing 31 courses with peer tutoring and virtual buddies. They are also available almost around the clock to answer "quick questions" from all NCVPS students via Pronto!!
While our tutors are busy, they have the capacity for much more. We would like for you to assist us in spreading the word about the NCVPS Peer Tutoring Center at the school level. To that end,
I am including a couple promotional items here for you to distribute along with suggestions about how to use the Peer Tutoring Center to maximize our students' success!
1) Please find the PTC Services Poster here: http://goo.gl/JrYF5 This poster may be printed and posted in your computer labs or wherever NCVPS students work or pass frequently. Also consider emailing it to your NCVPS students and parents. The poster would be perfect to send home with less than stellar Progress Reports! What about your school newsletter or newspaper?
2) Please share the following video with students and parents: http://www.screencast.com/t/w2a58fgGtlGH It is an informational video that explains all about the Peer Tutoring Center and the services we provide. This video would make a great addition to your Open Houses and Orientations.
3) Be on the look out for comments on Progress Reports. NCVPS teachers have been asked to use the Progress Report comments to refer students to the Peer Tutoring Center for services. If an instructor makes notations about a student struggling with a specific unit or topic, that student might benefit from peer tutoring. If an instructor comments about a student not getting assignments in on time or not attempting all assignments, that student might benefit from a virtual buddy.
4) What do you see at the school? Students that are not focused on their work? Students that wait until the last minute to work on projects? Have students told you they just don't get it? The Peer Tutoring Center can help!! You may refer them to their NCVPS Instructor or to the Tutoring Center button within their course for more information.
